Tips to Save Money on Motorcycle Maintenance

A lot of people choose motorcycles for their daily transportation needs. After all, they’re both fun and inexpensive to ride. Compared to cars, upkeep is significantly less expensive in the long run. However, this doesn’t mean that motorcycle maintenance is free. Far from it.

Luckily, there are ways you can save on maintenance so you can keep riding with the wind through your hair without draining your bank account.

Check out our tips to save on motorcycle maintenance below.

Buy Gear Online

Good motorcycle gear can be expensive. However, it’s necessary. Riding around without a helmet or protective jacket is a great way to get yourself seriously hurt. Plus, quality gear lasts longer and keeps you protected.

Luckily, you can net huge savings by buying your gear online. You can even search for discount codes. Buying gear online can save you money when purchasing things like air filters, coolant, or protective jackets to protect you from road rash.

Keep in mind, while you should typically buy new helmets, you can save money by buying other gear used. You’ll need a helmet, a protective jacket, gloves, boots and riding pants. These are the essentials.

Change Your Own Oil

Changing oil regularly is one of the most vital maintenance tasks for motorcycle riders. Oil reduces friction, lubricates moving parts and keeps engines cool. Oil breaks down over time, however, losing its effectiveness. This can cause engine damage. Perform oil changes yourself to save money and make sure the proper oil is used for the needs of your specific motorcycle.

Change Your Own Air Filters

Your motorcycle’s engine needs clean air to efficiently operate. Air filters prevent debris, dirt and dust from getting in the engine. Air filters clog over time, however.

That said, it is easy to replace an air filter yourself. This straightforward process requires minimal time and tools. Replacing air filters yourself can save money and optimize fuel efficiency and engine performance.

You should always be aware that changing filters is costly. Buy spare parts at cheaper prices and make your purchase during this sales season. When experiencing high repair costs, seek at least a $200 loan with instant approval or borrow from friends or family. They can help you to control the expenses without waiting, and, as often as not, you get them right away to pay for the needed repairs.

Replace Your Own Spark Plugs

A vital role is played by spark plugs. They ignite the combustion chamber’s fuel-air mixture in your engine. They wear out over time, though, leading to less fuel efficiency and less performance. It is simple to replace spark plugs. Replacing your spark plus yourself can improve the overall performance of your motorcycle while riding on the highway.

Replace Your Own Brake Pads

If you learn to replace your own brake pads, you can save a lot of money in the long-run. That said, it isn’t possible to avoid brake wear. Your brakes will not last forever. However, the majority of brake pads have wear indicators built in which tell you when they need to be replaced.

Almost all modern brake pads are able to be replaced with basic skills and standard tools. Learn how to replace your bike’s brake pads in order to enhance your knowledge, save money and make your bike safer.

In general, it’s good to be as familiar with your motorcycle as possible. Being able to take care of your bike when necessary can save you money and keep your vehicle in prime condition. After all, the last thing you want is for your bike to malfunction and get into an accident with a stolen car or any other vehicle for that matter. Better to stay safe and ahead of motorcycle repairs.

Dudes! Are you really asking that? Ok, we et it there are alot of dodgy folks online these days trying to make a quick buck. But now, we have put our heart and soul into Rugged Motorbike Jeans and scamming is the last thing on our mind. We are a small team of bikers, generally adventuring around on our various bikes (supermoto's, adventure, naked street and enduro bikes). If you email us you will generally get our CEO Sam or one of our other support staff who love the motorcycle community and are a part of it wherever we go. Everything is legit as soon as you make an order, it is processed immediately and on the way to you.

Yes & No. We sell a wide range of pants which DO have protective knee and hip pads and are suitable for motorcycle riding AND we also sell biker style jeans and pants which, although are all made of durable tough material are not certified for safety and do not have the protective padding needed in case you do get a little too throttle heavy and lay your bike down (we have all been there and done that!). Please check each product and contact us if you have any questions on this.

Since we offer a wide range from various manufacturers, they all have their own sizing per brand. However there is a sizing chart on each product page, look for the tab just above the description or the size chart link on the right side, or email us and we can recommend the size for you.

PLEASE NOTE : the size charts are taken directly from the manufacturer and the length is incorrect on some, the length is generally a standard length based on the waist size (waist size is correct on all size charts).

Typically the standard FREE shipping (which has full online track and trace) takes anywhere from 7 to 40 days, depending on your country. We also offer an expedited shipping service for a low fee of $4.95. Please see the shipping page for more detailed info.
